The NEBOSH National General Certificate (NGC) in occupational safety and health is a nationally recognised qualification covering the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, a range of workplace hazards and methods of control.
Designed for:
Non-specialists in health and safety who require sound initial training leading to a basic recognised qualification through examination and assessment. These would include managers, supervisors and safety representatives.
Successful completion of the NEBOSH NGC will enable candidates with at least five years experience to apply for Tech IOSH.
Course Structure & Key Topics:
The NEBOSH NGC consists of three unit, each separately assessed. Delegates may choose to take units either all at the same time or separately. On successful completion of each unit, a unit certificate will be issued. However, to achieve the NEBOSH NGC Certificate award, delegates will need to pass each of the units within a five-year period.
The three units are:
- NGC1 – Management of Health & Safety
Foundations of Health and Safety, Policy, Organising for health and safety, promoting a positive culture, risk assessment, principles of control, monitoring, review and audit, accident investigations
- NGC2 – Controlling Workplace Hazards
Movement of people and vehicles, manual and mechanical handling, work equipment, electrical safety, fire safety,chemical and biological hazards, physical and psychological hazards,construction activities
- NGC 3 – Practical Assessment
To satisfy the requirements for the award, delegates must pass the two written papers for NGC1 and NGC2 plus the practical assessment NGC 3. The practical assessment will be carried in a pre-determined environment normally a workshop and store.
