Asbestos Awareness

Guernsey and Jersey Law require all persons who are liable to be exposed to asbestos to be given training in order to safeguard their health. Managers and supervisors of employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos should also be trained.

  • Properties of asbestos and its effect on health, including the further increased risk of lung cancer for those who smoke 
  • Asbestos types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in buildings and plant
  • General procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, e.g. inadvertent damage to an ACM
  • How to avoid risks from asbestos, including the importance of checking that an appropriate asbestos for the specifc work place has been carried out and any ACMs identified and properly managed
Designed for:

The course is designed for anyone whose normal work expose them to asbestos.  It is not designed to give persons a level of competency who knowingly disturb asbestos.
